Dominican Republic 2002 ...continued
The mission team from Athens Christian Center traveled to Santiago, Dominican Republic to work with missionaries Tim and Treena Johnson. The Johnsons have an established work in the Santiago region, operating from their home base of La Casa Grande. With a focus on evangelistic work, the Johnsons regularly show Christian films, handout tracts, and minister wherever people will come to hear the message of the gospel. They also partner with the Feed the Hungry program which brings in shiploads of food to third-world countries for distribution to the needy.

A dancer shows the gospel message through drama.

Above: Dance and drama set the stage for the gospel message. Right: In an outdoor basketball court, people of all ages respond to missionary Tim Johnson's appeal to accept Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

“Let the little children come to me...” Mark 10:14

Performing to rapt audiences from mountain villages to the steps of the Santiago monument, the team found the people of the Dominican Republic to welcome them (and the gospel) warmly. It was incredible to watch the numbers of an audience swell from a handful that would congregate during setup to one or two hundred by the time the music, movie, and drama were in full swing. A large percentage of the audience would invariably come forward for prayer following the presentation with many accepting Christ for the first time.

Many respond to the altar call.
