Beginning in the early morning hours and flying almost 2,000 miles from Detroit, Michigan, the mission team landed as dusk fell at the newly-opened Santiago airport in the Dominican Republic. Children watch at the door of a Santiago church

“Let the little children come to me...” Mark 10:14

Children dressed in their best clothes stand outside the church doors of Hermano (Brother) Geronimo's newly-built, one-room kids' church in Santiago. Those not close enough to walk are brought to church in the back of a pick up truck that is packed with children. For the team members, the most difficult part of working with the kids was remembering that an estimated 80% of the female population of the D.R. will experience incest or prostitution during their lifetime. Many children come from homes without running water, indoor bathrooms, or electricity. To most, Americans seem very wealthy and are almost seen as a celebrity. Below, shoe shine boys in the downtown park of Santiago watch and listen attentively to the dramas and testimonies of the team.
